Friends of the Light was created in January 2011 by a small group of Friends, responding to a leading to create spaces in the world where people could come together to encourage and support each other as they explored their relationship with God.
July 2012 saw the launch of the these spaces with the first of our bi-monthly gatherings at Woodbrooke (the Quaker Centre in Birmingham, UK). In these spaces, the community has begun to explore what it means to be a Christian in the very distinctive way of Friends.
At the heart of this community we seek first to be led by the Spirit of Christ within. We also take inspiration from the bible and from the writing of Friends.
We worship in the manner of Friends, gathering in Christ's Name in simplicity and stillness. Our meetings for worship are predominantly silent, with ministry and prayer arising from that silence. Our meetings for worship are also un-timed; we worship for as long as we are gathered, and come out slowly and gently into worship sharing.
Friends of the Light is a gathering that is independent of any yearly meeting, including of Britain Yearly Meeting (the official Quaker body in Britain). We welcome members, attenders and those unattached to any official Quaker body, to worship with us.
